Abstract

The article aims to revisit the history of LGBTQIA+ existence in the Amazon, demonstrating that, although Brazil has seen a strengthening of this movement’s struggle since the mid-90s, the Amazon region needs perspectives that take into account its cultural and social issues. Given that historically the Northern region has been isolated and marginalized, it is understood that the existence of the LGBTQIA+ population in this territory is doubly challenging. Without considering the specific issues of the Amazon region, it is almost impossible to create public policies that address the community’s needs and promote the recognition of fundamental rights, thereby restoring the dignity cruelly taken from this population. Through this research, it has been possible to amplify the voice of the LGBTQIA+ individuals in the Amazon with the intention of ensuring their demands are not forgotten.
