Abstract

Stalking is about obsessive behavior of an individual, the stalker or persecutor, in the face of another determined person, his target. The term originates from the hunt, in which predators seek their prey relentlessly until they get what they want, be it food or fight to demonstrate power. Obsessive and persecuting behaviors were observed in the US in the 1980s, being practiced by ordinary people against celebrities of the time. Later, with the advent and spread of instantaneous communication media and the popularization of the internet, stalking began to be perpetrated on an ever-increasing scale, which continues to this day. The present work examined some important aspects related to stalking, especially its legal classification in the Brazilian legal system, the profiles of the aggressors and their victims. In addition, it analyzed the series "You", released in 2018 by Netflix and which also deals with the subject, bringing an approach from the stalker's perspective and serving as a way of raising awareness about the severity of stalker behaviors. The research was based on documental and bibliographical analysis, considering the specialized literature, legal texts and academic productions on the subject.
